Self catering in the Lake District - it is a beautiful ancient village, with a 12th Century Priory, and numerous pubs, restaurants and shops. There is a Spa shop for essentials. The walks all round it, and from Aynsome Manor park, especially over Hempsfell are unmissable. There are plenty of guides to them the Lodge, and all the maps you will need. Aynsome Manor Hotel , a lovely Georgian house, is adjacent to the park. It boasts a five course dinner superbly prepared from fresh local produce, delicious home made soups, biscuits and bread rolls served in their candlelit Georgian dining room. The cellars offer a wide ranging selection of over 90 wines. There is a cosy well stocked bar.

Self catering in the Lake District -Directions
From junction 36 of the M6, follow signs for BARROW on the A590 dual carriageway.
After 3 miles leave on the slip road, again signed BARROW, and follow this (partially dualled) road for approx. 6 miles.
After passing the BP Petrol Station, keep right at the roundabout, following signs for BARROW.
Travel up the hill on the dual carriageway, and just over the summit turn left signed CARTMEL.
Follow the lane down, and at the crossroads turn left.
Follow the lane for about mile and bear left at the next junction.
Approximately 200-300 yards along the lane, turn right at the sign for the AYNSOME MANOR COUNTRY HOUSE HOTEL.
At the end of the narrow lane, turn right.
Round the bend, after passing the Hotel, turn sharp right through the stone wall by themonkey puzzle trees, into AYNSOME MANOR PARK. The car parking space (no 26) is just below the wall at the foot of our garden, on the lhs of the car parking area entered. We advise reversing into the no 26 space, as it is tricky to reverse out, due to low level obstructions.
The total distance from the motorway is 15 miles.

Grange -over-Sands is only 3 miles away, and is a lovely little Edwardian resort by Morecombe Bay, with a butcher (Higginsons) voted the best butcher - England (!), some excellent fruit and veg shops and very pretty parks. For a supermarket, there is an excellent Booths in the (well worth a visit) market town of Ulverston.
Holker Hall, Cark - house, gardens, excellent caf and car museum Aynsome Manor Park is a beautifully landscaped parkland with lakes, streams, trees, lodge houses and orchard. The ducks are a permanent feature and take regular walks around the park to see everyone! See photo page.
